When to Schedule Your HERS Rater During Construction

Bringing in a HERS rater at the right moments keeps your project moving and avoids costly surprises. Here is how the timing typically works.

Design Phase

Engage a rater before construction begins. Early energy modeling lets you choose efficient assemblies and systems while changes are still inexpensive, and it sets a clear HERS target for the team.

Pre Drywall Inspection

Once insulation and the air barrier are in but before drywall, a thermal bypass inspection and preliminary blower door test catch problems while they are easy to fix.

Final Testing

Near completion, the rater performs the final blower door and duct leakage tests and confirms installed equipment. This data finalizes the HERS score used for code compliance and incentives.

Documentation and Certification

After testing, the rater issues the rating and compliance paperwork your inspector and incentive programs require. Coordinating these steps with your schedule is key. Contact us to map out the right testing timeline for your build.
